Q:  As a scientist how do you view McLuhan’s 
theories about communication?

A:  Well, he was a man who followed the scientific 
method. He made observations, he made 
generalizations. He was a great scientist. He was 
an explorer, a discoverer, an artist. He understood 
that art and science were the same thing. Maybe 
that’s why he wanted to meet me, when he heard 
that I taught a course called “The Poetry of
